Virginia Gilbert

Virginia Gilbert is an award-winning, BAFTA-nominated writer and director. Her screenwriting work has been placed on the BritList and she was named as a ‘Star of Tomorrow’ by Screen International.

Her debut short film as writer-director, HESITATION, won prizes internationally and was nominated for a BAFTA. Her debut feature, A LONG WAY FROM HOME, starring Natalie Dormer, James Fox and Brenda Fricker, was nominated for the Michael Powell award for Best British Feature and was released theatrically by Thunderbird Releasing. She is currently developing various features as writer-director including TRAVELLING COMPANION with Blinder Films and Screen Ireland, adapted from her debut novel; THE QUIET WOMAN, with Park Films and Screen Ireland and LEARNING BY HEART with Moonriver Content.

Television projects include a 3-part original TV series in development with Lionsgate and a six-part original TV drama series with producer Zoe Rocha, Rubyrock Pictures. Previous television work includes writing and directing the TV documentary series WHORES, directing the critically acclaimed satirical documentary MONEY, MONEY, MONEY and writing and creating the IFTA-nominated series AN IRISH STATE OF MIND. Recent credits include writing the 2019 two-part series finale of BBC 1’s SILENT WITNESS and directing the award-winning, Screen Ireland short DAY OUT, starring Martin McCann.

Radio credits include a season of her short fiction under the banner ABROAD on BBC Radio 4, four original dramas for BBC Radio 4, and directing Freemantle Media’s inaugural drama podcast for their Storyglass label, BABY, IT’S COLD OUTSIDE, starring Chris O’Dowd and Anne-Marie Duff.
